Having sold over 1,000 Russell original paintings, this artist is no
newcomer to the art scene. In fact, his career got started in
several upper end New York galleries.
As for Russell's paintings, there is a certain uniqueness, that
makes the music he portrays, blast from the canvas. Most people
cannot see sound. In Russell's works, the sound is visible through
splatters of paint. Vibrant colors in an almost Pollack style, shoot
from the instruments of Russell's musicians!
Russell has donated to well over 100 different charities, and done
many official prints and posters. He is also in many fine art
galleries.
Notes from Richard:
I spend most of my time in my studio. I like to work after
dinner to early the next morning. That way there are fewer
interruptions. I usually work while listening to TV. I listen and
watch CNN to stay current, but my favorite TV to paint to is
football. That really keeps me in the spirit of University
artwork.

When I am not painting, I am usually on the
computer. I have been a MAC guy since day one. I spend a lot of
time using PhotoShop to make sure that my prints are better
looking than the originals. I have a great printer that can
print on both paper and canvas. I do quite a bit of research and
correspondence on computer.

I use the work table to stretch canvases and
touch up prints. I usually work on one original at a time, and
spend lots of time hand embellishing prints.

I like to paint on a vertical wall. The work
is viewed vertically, so it helps me to paint it that way. Every
2-3 years I take down the masonite panel that I paint on and
sell it as an abstract.

These are the Three Amigos. They keep me
company. They cannot paint, but have been known to urinate on my
work. Everybody thinks they are a critic!
